Entrusted with Much

47 “The servant who knows the master’s will and does not get ready or does not do what the master wants will be beaten with many blows.48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked."
Luke 12:47-48

This verse came up a couple of weeks ago, and I have not been able to get it off my mind. The last sentence has just stuck with me...entrusted with much....much more will be asked. Entrusted means "something committed to another with confidence." I have reflected on all that I have been entrusted with, and I am left wondering, "What was the Lord thinking!?" A loving husband who needs me to be a present wife, 3 precious, amazing, beautiful, exhausting children who have to be fed, clothed, do homework, and go all over the world to tumbling, soccer, etc., a job teaching hundreds of little people how to be big people, a dog who thinks it's fun to run away and hang out on the roof, a household to run and keep clean, money to provide for my family and others, and the list goes on. The Lord has committed all of these things to me with confidence! He trusts me with all of them. And he isn't finished. But more than all the things of this world that He has entrusted to my care, He has given me the incredibly precious knowledge about His son Jesus. He has committed the gift of salvation and the knowledge of how to get it to me! He has entrusted me with a relationship with Him!

Not only has he now entrusted these things to my care, but much more will be asked of me! "What!? How can I possibly be asked to do anymore?" you say. "Why would He commit this amazing gift to me after all I've done?" I don't have more money or time or me to give...I mess up every single day multiple times a day! But the truth is that the Lord's "more" doesn't necessarily take more money or time or a perfect person. It just takes a willing, humble heart.

Micah 6:8 says the Lord requires you "to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God."

Psalm 51:16-17  says, "You do not delight in sacrifice...My sacrifice is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise."

In John 14:15 Jesus says, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments."

In Mark 5:19 Jesus says, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

The Lord's "more" is this: express remorse for the things we've done, humble ourselves and admit that we need Him, obey Him, and most of all share with others all that He's done for us!

Share what the Lord has done for you today. Don't wait and think that someone else will do it. Don't be afraid of what people will think. Shine a light for the Lord by smiling at people, being patient and kind, speaking life into people with praise and encouragement, have mercy and grace for those when they fail, be a peacemaker instead of stirring things up, really listen to others, give God the credit for the amazing things in your life, and trust God even when it's hard. People will see Jesus in you and want what you have. Be a blessing to others and share it:)

Why Hard Things? Mercy in the Storms

Disagreement. Discontent. Complaints. Injustice. It seems that it's all we hear about in the news these days. Black vs. White. Democrat vs. Republican. Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice. etc, etc etc. The list could go on all day. But right now, there's none of that. When I turn on the news, I see one thing. A heartbroken community rallying around those who have experienced great loss,  and a shift in focus. That's because tragedy is the great equalizer. Natural disasters, sickness, death...they level the playing field. There is no color or class or financial advantage. A storm doesn't decide to spare one people over another. We are all at the mercy of something we can't control. And we are left helpless, in the waiting. That helplessness. That brokenness. The sheer uncertainty of what tomorrow holds,  brings us together. And it is beautiful to see. We can't talk our way out of it. We can't buy our way out of it. ...

When Things Don't Go Your Way

Tonight Hazel and I sat staring in a koi pond as I waited on my take-out order. She was giggling and pointing and loving the turtles and fish that were moving around below. The turtles came to the surface every now and then, and she asked why the fish never did. I was explaining how God made every animal with different needs and purposes. Fish to live underwater because the air would in fact hurt them, and the turtles with the ability to swim underwater for a time, but needing to come up for air to breathe every now and then. I went on to tell her that if they didn't stay where God made them to be, they wouldn't survive. And I realized it was such a teachable moment... for me . Today I got a "no" on a situation that has, to this point, been a "maybe," and I was hoping might be a "yes." If I'm honest, I felt disappointment and might have shed a few tears. But so clearly I felt the Lord saying, as He has been for the past few months, "I...
